Central Coast Therapists

To strengthen the Marriage & Family therapy
profession & better serve
our Central Coast community.

About Central Coast CAMFT

The Central Coast Chapter of CAMFT currently has members located throughout San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara counties. We have a fun and collaborative board which begins each year with a day-long retreat for goal-setting, budget planning, and the essential time to connect with one another to co-create a common vision for the year ahead.

Our objectives as a Chapter are:

    • To advance marriage and family therapy as an art, a science and a mental health profession, and to assist the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) in furthering its objectives on a local level.
    • To serve and represent the common professional and business interests of marriage and family therapists.
    • set and maintain professional standards for marriage and family therapists.
    • To advocate and work to achieve public and private policies for the advancement of family life.
    • To engage in such other lawful activities as is allowed by law and/or as is set forth in the Articles of Incorporation of this corporation, and that are not in conflict with CAMFT’s Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws or ethical standards for marriage and family therapists.

Our January meeting is a networking meeting during which members introduce themselves by giving a brief summary of their areas of interest and specialization, as well as describing their practice.  Food and beverages are provided.  This is a great way to learn about possible referrals.

During the rest of the year, our meetings are structured with speakers on a variety of topics ranging from practice-building to integrative therapies.  Our two-hour bi-monthly presentations are offered free of charge.  Chapter members may earn two CEUs for $25 if they choose; non-Chapter members pay $30 for two CEUs.

Chapter Policies

Unless otherwise specified, our courses meet the qualifications for hours of continuing education credits for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the Board of Behavioral Sciences. Completion of this course earns a discount on liability insurance.  You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the workshop.

The Central Coast Chapter of CAMFT is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for MFTs, Associates and students, MSWs, LEPs and LPCCs. The Central Coast Chapter of CAMFT maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.

While the Central Coast Chapter of CAMFT makes every effort to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there will be occasional issues with regard to presentations/workshops which will require intervention and/or action on the part of the board. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.

When a participant files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken:

  1. The participant(s) will be asked to put concerns in writing (this can be in electronic form, such as an email).
  2. If the grievance concerns a presenter, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format. The Board will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.
  3. If the grievance concerns a presentation/workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the Board will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the Board will:
        • provide a credit for a subsequent presentation/workshop or
        • provide a partial or full refund of the presentation/workshop fee
