Workshop
Graduate school trains therapists to help clients — not to market a practice. But Frances believes the gap isn't as wide as it feels: many of the same clinical skills that make therapists good at their work also make them good at marketing. Both fields, after all, are built on relationships.
This presentation applies the logic of treatment planning to marketing planning — helping therapists assess, evaluate, and improve their marketing the way they already assess, evaluate, and improve client care (spoiler: a marketing treatment plan is far easier to write than a clinical one). If a client wasn't making progress, you wouldn't just hope things got better — you'd look at what's working, what isn't, and adjust. Therapists will learn to bring that same clarity to their caseload: is a lower-than-desired caseload a lead generation problem, or a lead conversion problem? Knowing the difference changes everything about where to focus.
The presentation will also cover the importance of knowing your Ideal Client — not as a marketing gimmick, but as the foundation your entire marketing plan is built on. Marketing isn't about reaching everyone; it's about becoming a clear beacon for the clients you're best suited to help. Far from limiting, knowing your Ideal Client is liberating — it tells you exactly where to spend your time and energy.
Bio - Frances Barry, LMFT
Frances is an LMFT in private practice in West Los Angeles. She works with elementary school kids who struggle with intense feelings of anger and/or anxiety. She also provides grief support to children who have lost a parent. Frances’ therapeutic approach is to meet the child where they are, engaging them with non-directive play therapy and talk therapy. She also works closely with her clients' parents to support and guide them through the challenging moments of parenthood. Prior to becoming a child therapist, Frances worked in Corporate America and Academia as a marketer, strategic consultant and statistician. Some of the places she had worked include Disney, Hewlett Packard and UCLA. Her company, Stat by Stat, provides therapists with the tools and training they need to evaluate their marketing efforts to fill their caseload as efficiently as possible.
Grievances
While the Central Coast Chapter of CAMFT makes every effort to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there may be occasional issues with regard to presentations/workshops which will require intervention and/or action on the part of the board. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.
When a participant files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken:
- The participant(s) will be asked to put concerns in writing (this can be in electronic form, such as an email).
- If the grievance concerns a presenter, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put their comments in written format. The Board will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.
- If the grievance concerns a presentation/workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the Board will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the Board will:
- provide a credit for a subsequent presentation/workshop or
- provide a partial or full refund of the presentation/workshop fee
