Our Presentation
This talk will expand on mental health care inequities for vulnerable clients through discussion of theory and applications. Presenters will guide participants to explore the norms of mental health services and care, health related social needs, and potential changes needed to reduce health care barriers and promote equity in access and engagement in mental health services. The goal is to increase awareness of multiple dimensions of health related social needs in order to prepare clinicians to work proficiently, humbly and effectively with a multicultural population.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the context to the structure in which mental health disparities and inequities is produced for vulnerable clients (e.g. how privilege and oppression impact these health care inequities for individuals).
- Define Health Related Social Needs (HRSNs) along the context of multicultural mental health care.
- Apply a social justice centered lens and one screening tool that can increase cultural humility and help address the health-related social needs of our clients.
- Discuss relevant linkages and community referrals to address identified barriers to successful outcomes.
