Body as Resource: An Experiential Skills-Building Workshop

with Shelley Kilcoyne, LCSW, CMP

This workshop is designed to help therapists come into deeper contact with their own embodied experience and, through doing so, learn how to support clients into deeper contact with their embodied experience -- ideally increasing the depth and efficacy of clinical work. In addition to body awareness exercises, we will interactively explore several other somatic resourcing practices that can serve to support both the therapist and client, in and out of session, in regulating emotion and nervous system arousal, sensing safety, and enhancing relational capacity. To put it simply, we’re going to “get in touch” with our embodied selves and learn some simple yet profound body-based tools that will help us feel supported in the therapy room and in our lives -- and hopefully we'll even have a little fun and gentleness along the way! Be sure to wear something comfortable, as movement will be encouraged (modifications for different abilities will be offered). We will gather through the Zoom platform; large and small group connection time will be available during the online workshop to support integration. We will address specific interventions to support these current remote conditions we are working within where embodiment is key.

Shelley (Michelle Marie Kilcoyne, LCSW 75239) will be our workshop guide. She is continually grateful for, influenced by, and will weave into the workshop, elements of her formal trainings in Gestalt Practice, Open Floor “Therapy-in-Motion,” NeuroAffective Touch, Natural Processing, CranioSacral Therapy, and Qigong, as well as her self-study of Polyvagal Theory, SensoriMotor Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Yoga, Hakomi, Body Process, and Nature.
