Course Description:  Through Power Point lecture combined with brief experiential embodiment practices, this workshop is designed to provide therapists and other mental health practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of both individual and societal / systemic trauma, with greater emphasis on individual trauma.  Participants will learn about the neurobiology of individual trauma, the critical role of the nervous system in trauma responses and trauma healing, the difference between Complex trauma and PTSD and the importance of embodiment in trauma recovery and integration.  Participants will also learn essential aspects of being a trauma- informed mental health practitioner.

Registered participants must have access to Zoom and will receive a Zoom link at registration.  There will be two 10 minute breaks, an hour break for lunch, and opportunities for questions.  Embodiment practices can be done from a chair or standing, and require minimal movement.

Learning objectives:

1.     You will gain a comprehensive understanding of individual and societal / systemic trauma and how embodiment can help support trauma healing.

2.     You will learn how trauma effects the brain, autonomic nervous system and memory processing.

3.     You will be able to identify six core elements of trauma healing and recovery.

4.     You will learn a range of embodiment practices to use with clients.

5.     You will learn essential aspects of trauma-informed mental health practice.

Leslie Bullock is approved by the CCC-California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFT’s. LCSW’s, LEP’s, LPCC’s, associates of the preceding categories and students. Leslie Bullock maintains responsibility for this course and its content.  This course meets the qualifications for 6 hours of Continuing Education units as required by the Board of Behavioral Sciences, for those listed above. This is a live online event and will not be recorded.

Presenter Bio:  Leslie Bullock, LCSW is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice in San Luis Obispo. Leslie specializes in treating individuals with Complex Trauma, PTSD, relational /attachment trauma and trauma-related stress. Her focus is the centrality of the mind / body connection, the wisdom of the body and somatic-based treatment for trauma healing. Leslie is a certified Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive yoga (TCTSY) facilitator and a Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) practitioner through the Trauma Resource Institute (TRI).  She is currently a mentor for the Prison Yoga Project’s Yoga and Mindfulness Immersion virtual program at the California Men’s Colony.  Before establishing her private practice 15 years ago, Leslie worked as a medical social worker, hospice social worker and school social worker in Fresno, CA, and an English teacher and refugee resettlement counselor in refugee camps in Panat Nikhom, Thailand.
