This is the fourth of four L&E workshop modules we will be offering this year.

Friday, November 13, 2020

10:00 am – 11:30 am

Luke Martin, Esq.

A therapist’s mandatory reporting obligations under the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act

Attorney Luke Martin takes an in-depth look at Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act from the standpoint of what the California Penal Code states. Mr. Martin examines why the law was created, who qualifies as a mandated reporter, the various types of abuse and neglect as well as concludes with how to actually make a report. Various scenarios will be presented throughout and as time permits questions will be answered on specific instances.

At the end of this presentation, participants will:

  1. Be able to identify the specific categories of abuse and neglect
  2. Understand their obligations to report as a mandate reporter
  3. Recognize where and how they must report abuse and neglect

Participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize why the law was created and acknowledge potential deficiencies in the law
  2. Interpret the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act as it relates to marriage and family therapy
  3. Assess multiple scenarios to analyze if child abuse and neglect has occurred
