Please note that this workshop is on a Saturday.  As we are offering four L&E modules beginning in July, we wanted to space our workshops over time.  For this reason we have scheduled our "usual" September presentation in August. Implicit Biases: What They Are and What We Can Do About Them

presented by

Julie A. Garcia, Ph.D.,
Professor, Psychology and Child Development Department

This course is designed to help therapists identify their biases and their affects and learn how to address them so they can create more egalitarian and authentic interactions with clients.

Dr. Julie Garcia is a social psychologist that has been researching, teaching, and doing service related to diversity, equity, and inclusion for over 20 years. She has published over 20 research articles and book chapters, as well has received prestigious research grant funding to do research on these topics. She has also given over 50 presentations on diversity, equity, and inclusion topics both nationally and internationally.  In 2017, she did a TEDx talk on implicit bias.

She received her Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Michigan and did a postdoctoral training at Stanford University.  She has been on the faculty at California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo in the Department of Psychology and Child Development for over 13 years and has also served as the university's Interim Associate Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion in the Office of University Diversity and Inclusion.
